Wicked Margaritas - Only at Wicked Willie's!

There is nothing better than a cold margarita on a hot summer day. Lake of the Ozarks has been getting some really hot days here lately, which just makes us want to bring out the tequila and limes! At Wicked Willie’s, we use more than just limes for some of our signature margaritas! Learn more about the origins of the margarita and what delicious flavor combinations we can offer you at the best sports bar at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Who Created the Margarita?

Just like with many other popular cocktails, more than one person claims to have created the first margarita.  The top contender for the creator of the margarita is Carlos “Danny” Herrera, who claimed to have invented the drink at his restaurant in Tijuana, Rancho La Gloria, around 1938. As the story goes, Herrera created the cocktail for one of his customers, Marjorie King, who was an aspiring actress. She was allergic to all hard alcohol except tequila. To make the liquor a little more pleasing, he combined the ingredients of a traditional tequila shot – salt and a lime wedge – and turned them into a refreshing drink.

Another candidate for the creator of margaritas is Margarita Sames, a well-to-do Dallas socialite who claimed to have invented the drink for her friends at her Acapulco vacation home in 1948. Tommy Hilton, who was one of her guests, eventually added the drink to his hotel chain’s bar menu.
