Hockey Season Is Here! 🏒

Hockey season is here, and it started off with a bang at Wicked Willie's Sports Grill. We had the excitement of watching Missouri's own St. Louis Blues beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 in overtime for their season opener! It was awesome, and we'll be doing it all again on Saturday, October 7 for the Blues home opener at the best place to watch sports at the Lake of the Ozarks

Blues Fun Facts
Our boys in blue are starting off the year ranked 3rd in the Central Division. Not a bad place to start out. As always, Blues fans hope that this is the year that we finally make it all the way to that Stanley Cup, but before we can get there, we've got a lot of games to cheer them, and all of those games will be playing at the Lake of the Ozarks best sports bar & grill. Here is the October schedule, followed by a few interesting facts about Missouri's favorite team.

  • The franchise was founded in 1967. It was the last of the expansion teams created when the league went from 6 to 12 teams.
  • The Blues have played in the Stanley Cup Finals 3 different times: 1968, 1969, and 1970.
  • They are the oldest NHL team to never have won the Stanley Cup. (This is the year though, right!?!)
  • Their long-time rivals are the Chicago Blackhawks. The two have shared a division since 1970. (Rivalry or not, Chicago's fans are welcome at Wicked Willie's too! The more, the merrier!)
  • The Blackhawk's are actually the ones that insisted St. Louis become one of the expansion teams in 1967. Chicago's team owner also owned the St. Louis Arena and hoped to unload the property.
  • The Blues are named after W. C. Handy's song entitled "Saint Louis Blues."
  • It's tradition for Jeremy Boyer, the Blues organist, to play live during games. He plays the "St. Louis Blues" in its entirety before every game. A shorter version is played after each period, followed by "When the Saints Go Marching In." That last song is also played after each St. Louis goal, but the fans replace the word "Saints" with "Blues!"
  • The Tulsa Oilers are their minor league affiliate.
  • The Blues games now take place in the Scottrade Center, previously known as the Savvis Center, and have since 1994.
  • Their mascot, a blue polar bear, got the name "Louie" by a fan vote, and he made his debut on October 10, 2007.
